The name of your organization:
SCDO- Shanghai Computer Donating Organization
Your specific topic:
Our specific topic is to collect used computers that are decent and donate them to the Wa Chun School and possibly raise enough money to set up an internet network at the Wa Chun School.
The purpose- Why are you doing this action?
We are doing this because Digital Divide is a huge global issue that separates people that have computers and internet access and the ones who don't. Many people in povertydo not have an education because they can not afford to go to school.an education. If they or their kids have a computer, they can learn by using free programs on the internet to learn. Doing this can allow them to have an education, get a job, make money, then be able to supply their kids with education and the same cycle. We are starting in Shanghai because it is more convenient since we live and know more about Shanghai.
The message- Why should people be informed about this issue?
There are people that do not have access to computers and internet. It is not fair that some people have access to internet and computers while others in the world have nothing like this, and may have never even heard or seen a computer. It would be helpful for people also because as mentioned before, they help people get an education, get a job, make money, and let their children go through the same cycle of education.
A goal- make sure this is a project that can be done and hopefully continued
To ask people to bring in old computers that they may have, and still work so that we can give them to the Wa Chun school.These people could include people that we inform at school or from posters that we would put up
A short-term plan for achieving your goal (keep it simple and don’t be too ambitious- again make sure you CAN actually do this)
Ask people for their computer that they do not need, but still work, so that we could hook them up at the Wa Chun school.We could do this by having someone who knows how to work with with electronics come to help us set up and pug in the computers.
A long-term plan for achieving your goal:
We would like to educate people about the terrible effects of the Digital Divide and encourage them to continue making donations to organizations trying to deal with this issue as well as tell their friends and relatives about it.
Resources needed for this action plan: Posters,Computers, Money, Helpful People-people at school, volunteers, or people who respond to posters that we put up.
Division of responsibilities- who will do what?:
David- will be in charge of contacting the school and Dr. Rosen. Erik- will organize donations
Levin- will clear all hard drives and reset the computers to have the default language in chinese
